Google Gemini Review (2026)

Google's assistant, deeply tied into Search, Workspace and Android.

4.5/5 · Editorial rating by AI Tools Show · Verified 2026-07-26

Our verdict

The best-value $20 assistant if you already live in Google's ecosystem; the integration is the real selling point.

Gemini's pace of change is dizzying. By mid-2026 Google has moved through the 3.x series, with Gemini 3.1 Pro as the daily driver on paid plans, newer Flash models shipping for efficiency and a 3.5 Pro flagship in testing. That churn is a double-edged sword: you get frequent improvements, but the model you used last month may not be the one answering today.

The value story is strong. Google AI Pro at $19.99 undercuts its rivals by a hair and bundles in Deep Research, NotebookLM and 2TB of storage, while Workspace subscribers often get Gemini folded in at no extra cost. If your working day already runs through Gmail, Docs and Android, having the assistant right there is worth more than a few benchmark points.

Raw answer quality is competitive but a touch less consistent than ChatGPT or Claude in our experience, particularly on nuanced writing. Pick Gemini for the integration and price, not because it wins every head-to-head. For pure writing or analysis, compare it against Claude before committing.

Pros

  • ✓ Cheapest flagship tier at $19.99, and free for Workspace users
  • ✓ Deep integration across Gmail, Docs, Sheets and Android
  • ✓ Includes extras like NotebookLM and large cloud storage

Cons

  • ✗ Rapid, confusing model churn (1.5, 2.0, 3.x within months)

  • ✗ The best models sit behind the paid Pro tier
Best for

People who live in Gmail, Docs and Android and want AI woven through them.

Not for

Anyone who wants a stable, predictable model name, given how fast Google iterates.
